Maddy Corbin: Dan’s brother’s girlfriend has been organizing a big cycle event for the past few months. This is to raise awareness of depression and money for two charities working to support people with depression. It is called The Slow Ride To Turin !” 13th October 2012 thirty cyclists will leave Axminster in Devon and ride to the Slow Food Salone del Gusto festival in Turin, Italy, in memory of Philippa Corbin. We are riding to raise awareness of depression and raise funds for two charities.” from the website – http://www.slowridetoturin.co.uk/
On Day one 60 cyclists in total rode the 61 miles from Axminster to Swanage. from there 28 have continued on to Turin. Dan and I joined for this first day. Leaving en mass from The River Cottage canteen in Axminster at 10am and arriving after 5 at the Swanage youth hostel – we were very pleased! Dan and I did the ride on our new (and so far untested by us) fold up Brompton bikes which we bought second hand specially for taking aboard Hestur for our trip. The bike were brilliant we made it happily there, and have lots of confidence for future touring on them! –
The Ride got off to a fantastic start and I am sure was very encouraging for Maddy and her parents who have been doing so much work in its preparation. All the Very best to the intrepid Cyclists We are thinking of you !!!
