We are in Northern Ireland! We left Portpatrick at 5 am this morning to catch the north going tide. Last night we saw a very good friend, from college days in Edinburgh, Amy Winstanley! She lives in Castle Douglas nearby and came over to visit us aboard for the evening. So lovley to see her.
After a 35NM crossing this morning on a flat, oily, windless sea, we have now just anchored in Red Bay off Cushendall in Northern Ireland. We will catch the tide north again at 6pm this afternoon and head on to the island of Gigha in the south end of the sound of Jura, another 35NM.
Time for a wander ashore…
Very pleased to hear that you saw Amy, how nice.
Hope you find a nice anchorage on Gigha .

And what a wonderful evening it was to see you both on your beautiful boat!! So lovely catching up, all the best for your sail up north. xx
G’day Charlotte and Dan
Iron Bark arrived in Ullapool yesterday,7 Sept, 29 days out from Newfoundland, after the hardest passage I have made for many years. It included 12 hours of hurricane force winds from hurricane Cristobal. The weight of the seas breaking aboard stove in the dinghy without doing any other damage of significance, but the outcome was far from a sure thing.
I’ll be in this district for some time, so hope to see you soon.
Cheers

Wow Trevor, how wonderfull, we are on our way…
Your crossing sounds absolutely horrendous. I am so glad Iron Bark stood up to it all, but very sad about your dingy.
We are passing Mull just now, prob Tobermory to night. We should be back in Ullapool by the weekend… See you soon
